Jim Stingley. center, front row, Rusk High School student, participated in last summer's Boy's State at the University of Texas in Austin. While there, he was a part of the band. He recently presented a report of his activities to the American Legion Post 293, his sponsor for the event. Participants at Boys State learned about the U.S. Constitution, the legislature and other branches of government. They ran for political office, made speeches and had an hands on experience of how the Republic operates. To attend, participants must be junior students, of good character, good grades and be recommended by principal and school counselor. The local American Legion Post has sponsored six to Boys State and one to Girls State. Interested youths may contact Kenneth White, post commander, at (903) 795-3574.
