Trotter, Hamlett, ‘Kats move on in FCS playoffs

l Seniors Cory Hamlett (left) and John Trotter (right) picked up their third Southland Conference football championship as members of the Sam Houston State Bearkats after SHSU's 38-31 win over Central Arkansas two weeks ago. The Bearkats then kicked off the FCS playoffs Saturday with a 21-17 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Hamlett, a defensive back and a Jacksonville High School graduate, has 11 tackles, two for loss and a forced fumble on the season. Trotter, an offensive lineman and Rusk High School graduate, is the team's starting left guard on a line that blocks for the sixth-best rushing attack in the nation.
