Former Baylor University president William R. "Billy" White has ties to Mixon and Cherokee County. Born in 1892, Mr. White was raised in Frankston, but received preparatory training from Rusk Academy in Cherokee County. In 1948, he was named the 10th president at Baylor University, serving in the post until 1961. He also served as president at Hardin-Simmons University from 1940-48. Mr. White died in 1977.
