Mary Decker (left) and Deborah Burkett (right) spoke at the annual fall meeting of the East Texas Historical Association on Oct. 3. Ms. Burkett discovered a rare, Civil War-era quilt in Alto which was designed by Ms. Decker's greatgrandmother. The two women researched the quilt's history, which included mysterious symbols, rare European fabrics and a murder. The program was moderated by Cherokeean Herald editor Terrie Gonzalez.
