This is not a re-enactment of the early days of Texas, it's the real deal. Chores included chopping wood for the cook stove and feeding the chickens. Susie and daughter are decked out in aprons and bonnets while Benjamin takes a break. Note the Rhode Island Red hens--a popular choice for backyard flocks because of its egg laying abilities and hardiness. Pioneers such as the Musick family were hardy as well, had to be.
