The Rusk Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club are teaming up to ensure that no one goes without this Christ- mas. The chamber and the Lions Club will hold their annual Dream Tree event, which will allow the community to help those less fortunate have a happy holiday season. Names are placed on dream trees, which can be found at various banks and businesses within Rusk.

The Rusk Senior Finale will sponsor pictures with Santa from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Footbridge Park in Rusk. Pictures will be $10 for a 5X7 print. In the event of rain the photo sessions will be moved to the Rusk High School gym.

The Rusk economy received a boost Thursday afternoon when Rusk ISD teachers and staff members received checks totaling $301,449,50 (and netting $262,000) were distributed to district employees. The funds are budgeted for distribution to staff members.

Merchants plan 'Home for Holidays'

Plans are underway to form a Rusk Merchants Association, comprised of persons who have a retail establishment or a business that would benefit from a consolidated "voice" concerning common issues, interests and ideas. First event of this group will be a "Home for the Holidays open house" on Friday, Dec. 5.

District Judge Bascom Bentley recently sentenced Kevin Hawes to 70 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for aggravated sexual assault of child. Mr. Hawes had previously been placed on deferred adjudication probation in 1999.
