Gov. Perry Names Friedkin Chair of Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission

Gov. Rick Perry has named Dan Friedkin of Houston chair of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, and appointed Bill Jones of Austin to the commission effective Sept. 1, 2011. The commission oversees the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Friedkin is chairman and CEO of The Friedkin Group, with responsibility for companies and investments principally in the automotive industry, including Gulf States Toyota. He is a trustee of the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Kinkaid School, a member of the Young Presidents' Organization, and chairman of the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation. He is also an advisory board member of the Texas A&M Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute. Friedkin received a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University, and a master's degree in finance from Rice University. He will serve as chair of the commission for a term to expire at the pleasure of the governor.

Jones is an attorney and owner of The Jones Law Firm. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, and State Bar of Texas. He is a member and past president of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum Foundation, and a board member of the Austin Chamber of Commerce and Memorial Hermann Healthcare System Community Care. He is also a past board member and past chair of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and a past board member of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System Foundation. Jones received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a law degree from Baylor University. He is appointed for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2017.
