TEXAS MAIN STREET PROGRAM APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is now accepting applications from small, urban and recertified communities for participation in the Texas Main Street Program. Applications are available on the THC web site at www.thc.state.tx.us. Completed applications are due by Friday, July 30, 2010.

The THC’s Texas Main Street Program is a revitalization program for historic downtown and neighborhood commercial districts. Today, there are 86 official Texas Main Street programs representing more than 2.6 million citizens. The programs are in cities and commercial neighborhood districts of all sizes, ranging from less than 1,000 to more than 220,000, throughout Texas. Over time, Texas Main Street communities have realized more than $2 billion in economic reinvestment, the creation of more than 25,000 local jobs and the expansion or creation of more than 6,400 businesses in their Main Street districts. These reinvestments show that significant economic development impact can be realized through

historic preservation.

For more information on the THC’s Texas Main Street Program, contact State Coordinator Debra Farst at 512.463.5758 or visit www.thc.state.tx.us to download an application.
