Rusk native is president of board of pharmacy

Gov. Rick Perry has named Rusk native Jeanne Duncan Waggener of Waco president of the Texas Board of Pharmacy.

As the assistant manager in one of the top 50 pharmacies in the company, she is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and supervising personnel in a high volume pharmacy.

She is president of the Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair Board of Trustees, a member of the Texas State Technical College Advisory Council and Pharmacy Technician Program, Texas Pharmacy Association and Heart of Texas Pharmacy Association. Mrs. Waggener has been involved in both community and church organizations. After seeing the impact that science fair competition had on her son's life, Mrs. Waggener decided to devote her efforts into ensuring that middle and high school students in grades 6-12 would have the same opportunity afforded her son.

She became involved with the Central Texas Science and Engineering Fair where she has served as president of the board of trustees since 1997.

She has also served as the Institutional Review Board Chairperson of the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair, and in 2004 was elected as the chairperson of the Intel International Sci- ence and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Advisory Council.

Mrs. Waggener was also selected by Science Service, the nonprofit educational organization who conducts the Intel ISEF, to serve on the Best Practices Committee to assist in the management of science fairs at all levels.

In 2004 as a result of her commitment to excellence in science and involvement in the community as a volunteer she was awarded the first Outstanding Performance Award given by Walmart Pharmacy.

She was chosen as one of 29 regional community pharmacists of the Year, one of five divisional community pharmacists of the year, and finally, the 2007 Walmart Community Pharmacist of the Year at the 2007 Year Beginning Meeting held in Kansas City, Kan.

The award was presented based upon volunteer activities in the community as well as contributions to the profession of pharmacy while working for Walmart. She has served on the Federation Board of Texas A&M Mothers Clubs and the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Waco.

She has served as parsonage chairperson and is an usher captain at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco.
