Retired county official arrested for credit card embezzlement

Former probation officer charged with stealing $60,000
Carl Phillips, a Cherokee County probation officer with more than 30 years of service, has been indicted on three charges. He was indicted on charges of theft by a public servant, misapplication of property by a fiduciary and tampering with government records. He was arrested Dec. 10 and released on a $25,000 bond that day. His attorney is Chris Day.
