Good Sam gets ready for Christmas
      Volunteers at the Rusk Good Samaritan are accepting food and momentary gifts to provide Christmas boxes for Rusk area needy citizens.

Republicans will meet Dec. 1 at the Legacy
      The Cherokee County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1 at The Legacy, 782 CR 1511 Jacksonville. For additional information and reservations contact President Steve Looney (903)-586-3228. The cost will be $16 per person which includes a traditional Christmas meal with trimmings. Those attending are asked to bring a wrapped gift for the gift exchange.

Rusk Senior Finale will sponsor bake sale
      Rusk Senior Finale will have a Thanksgiving Bake Sale at the intersection of U. S. Highway 69 and Highway 84 beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25. Everyone is invited to stop by and pick up a dessert for Thanksgiving Day to help support the Class of 2010 graduation project. All donations are tax deductible.

Alto Lions slate yule parade
      The Alto Lions Club will sponsor this year’s Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in downtown Alto. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Missionary Baptist Church. This year’s parade theme is “Colors of Christmas.” A $50 prize will be awarded to the entry judged to have the best use of the theme.

Theatre group plans auditions
‘THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK’
      Sessions planned Dec. 12, 13 The Cherokee Civic Theatre will conduct auditions for the upcoming February show of “The Diary of Anne Frank” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 at the theater in Rusk. The show is directed by Jessica Breen-Ford, and produced by long-time theatre member Camille Jones.

Rusk’s Dream Trees will go up after Thanksgiving
     has shown signs of life, it remained in a state of flux for most of the second half of the year. Despite that, the Rusk Lions Club intends to do its part to make sure that the changing economy doesn’t keep anyone from having a merry Christmas.

Polar Express adds train ride, cars in Dec.
      Approximately 26,000 riders have bought tickets for The Polar Express and rides have been added to meet the demand. The ride departs from the Palestine Depot three times per day – 5:10 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Rides will be held Nov. 27-29; Dec. 4-6, 11-23 and 26-27. Four December school runs will take place Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 10 a.m. and noon.

River of Life Christmas program Dec. 10
      The River of Life Christian Center in Rusk will put on a Christmas program Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. The program will feature the play “Born for Such a Time as This.” Organizers say that the play will “inspire faith in a living Jesus for miracles in our lives.” For more information, contact River of Life at (903) 683-3132.

      l Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new member, Flip- Out & Cheer, 1720 Quevado, at a ribbon cutting Nov. 2. Flip-Out & Cheer is owned by Jason Camp and is a cheer and tumbling facility for ages 3 years and up.

‘Night with Santa’ planned at Jacksonville West Side North
      “A Night with Santa, A Rock ‘n Roll Christmas” is the theme for the 6-7 p.m. Dec. 10 party at the West Side Elementary School in Jacksonville. For $2 per person cookies, cocoa, holiday carols and holiday storytelling will be enjoyed. Those attending are asked to wear their P.J.s and bring a blanket.
