Rusk County schedules Tree of Angels ceremony
      Victims and Survivors Against Violent Crimes will sponsor its annual Tree of Angels” ceremony at the Rusk County Courthouse, 115 N. Main St. in Henderson. The ceremony was originally held in Cherokee County from 2002-06. In 2007, it was moved to Rusk County.

      The 18th annual open house at Old Farmhouse Pottery’ in Maydelle planned for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21-22. Sonic Drive-In Halloween winners announced
      Halloween costume winners at the Sonic Drive-In for up to age six: Kamialyha Herndon as the princess, first place; Shemarina Brown as a cheerleader, second place; and Wayne Lee as a tiger, third place. Winners for children, ages seven-12 were Ruben Sepeda as the troll, first place; Emilly Hightower, twister game, second place; and Cynara Griffin.

Program on Mission Tejas State Park presented
      Speaker for the Nov. 12 Rusk Lions Club meeting was John Tatum, who spoke on the Mission Tejas State Park in Weches. Mr. Tatum was introduced by Charlie Burfoot. The speaker graduated from Stephen F. Austin and is currently employed by Texas Parks and Wildlife. He is stationed at Mission Tejas State Park.      Just in time for Christmas, these Cherokee Civic Theatre show cast and crew members of “A Christmas Story” are selling tickets for two raffles. In honor of “A Christmas Story” they are selling raffle tickets for the Leg Lamp and an official Red Ryder BB Gun.

Area receives grant to fight child exploitation
      A $469,342 grant awarded to the Longview Police Department will be used to fight child pornography in East Texas, including Cherokee County. The federal grant will assist in the prosecution, location, and apprehension of individuals who exploit children on the Internet and in person, U.S. Attorney Malcolm Bales announced last week.
