Business Man, Woman will be recognized

JACKSONVILLE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

NATHAN JONES NATHAN JONES Jacksonville’s business man Nathan Jones and business woman Fran Daniel will be recognized at the annual chamber of commerce fall membership meeting at noon Monday, Nov. 9 at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce. Reservations can be made at the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, 526 E. Commerce for $15 each. Due to limited seating, no tickets will be sold at the door. Deadline for reservations is Thursday, Nov. 5. For additional information contact the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce at 903-586-2217.

Nathan Jones

Mr. Jones has been named as the year’s outstanding business man. He is a member of First United Methodist Church. He and his wife of 25 years, Lisa, have two children, Christopher and Jonathan. Christopher is a sophomore at Texas A&M and Jonathan is a junior in high school.

Mr. Jones grew up in Bryan, the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from Bryan High School and then earned his BBA from Texas A&M in 1982. He earned his graduate degree in banking from SWIGSB at SMU in 1995. He follows a family of bankers where his great grandfathers, J.H. Sharp and Snap Jarvis, helped start First National Bank in Troup and his grandfather, Newell H. Jarvis owned and operated this bank until it was sold in the 1970s. His mother, Dr. Sara Jarvis Jones, was the first woman director of City National Bank in Bryan.

FRAN DANIEL FRAN DANIEL He has been employed with Austin Bank in Jacksonville since 1989, where he now serves as location president of the downtown Jacksonville office.

Since October 2006, he has been regional president responsible for the oversight of the Cherokee County Region which consists of Downtown Jacksonville, South Jacksonville, Rusk, Troup and Bullard offices. He is a board member of Nan Travis Foundation, board member of Lakeview Methodist Conference Center, board member of the Economic Advisory Committee, assistant scout master Troop 403, campaign chairman of the Cherokee County United Fund, former graduate of Jacksonville Leadership Institute, former board member of Cherokee County Crisis Center, former board member of Child and Family Services.

He is a former director of Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, former board member of United Fund, former director for two terms of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, former board member of the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation serving from 2002-08, former president of the Jacksonville Rotary Club from 2005-07.

He served as assistant cub master of Pack 403 for five years and den leader for five years, former member of CSCA working on the last JISD school bond proposal, former Friends of Scouting Chairman 2002 and 2003

Fran Daniel

Mrs. Daniel will be recognized as the outstanding business woman of the year. Mrs. Daniel has spent 37 years in the non-profit sector.

She and her husband, Dave, are parents of five children and 11 grandchildren, scattered throughout Oklahoma, Mississippi, Austin and Waco. She first served as director of development of the Genesee County Easter Seal Society in Flint, Mich. During those years of service, part of her responsibilities included producing the first Easter Seal Telethon for a six-county area. After moving to Texas in 1981, she worked as a development consultant for the Texas Easter Seal Society in Dallas, and then moved to Waco and joined the Central Texas Rehabilitation Center, an Easter Seal affiliate. During her 10 years there, she once again produced five more Easter Seal Telethons along with her other duties as director of development.

While in Waco she continued her work with non-profits as a branch manager for the Heart of Texas Arthritis Foundation with a service area of 12 counties.

After her marriage to Dave, they moved to Austin where she did contract work with the Texas Affiliate, American Diabetes Association, and then moved on to Family Eldercare as a Volunteer Coordinator.

In 1991, Dave and Fran moved to Jacksonville. At that time, Mrs. Daniel learned about the creation of HOPE Inc. and decided to volunteer to help get the agency organized.

Throughout those 18 years, HOPE has grown into a multi purpose service center to provide some 23 programs and services to the economically challenged. During her years in Jacksonville, she has served as a board member for the Jacksonville Literacy Council, the Cherokee County Mental Retardation Association, and the Jacksonville Housing Authority.

She still serves on the board of the Cherokee County Family Services and the Cherokee County Health Department Advisory Board. Other affiliations include the Child Care Licensing Advisory Board, the Cherokee CARE Collaboration the Chamber’s Beautification Committee, the East Texas Council of Governments, Regional Health Planning and Human Services Committee, as well as other community planning projects committees.
