Edgewood Heritage Fest Honors 1900 East Texas
Event slated Nov. 14
Edgewood – The 33rd annual Edgewood Heritage Festival all day on Nov. 14 celebrates yesteryear in one of East Texas’ most unique treasures, with more than 20 authentically restored and furnished structures representing rural life in East Texas in 1900. Highlights include a juried quilt show, one of the largest and most popular car shows in Van Zandt County, a CASI chili cook-off, a pet show, a pinto bean cook-off, and more. There’ll be lots of live music, arts and crafts, visiting time with Santa, food, and more. The schedule also includes a Lions Club breakfast, a veterans’ salute, Boy Scouts, historical re-enactments, a bake sale, Christmas carols and patriotic songs, square and clog dancers, armadillo races, wagon rides, a model train setup, and exhibits of old-time schools including a print shop, weaving and spinning, corn grinding, haircuts, blacksmithing, Dutch oven cooking, and more. One of the special features this year is an exhibit area for horse trainers, owners, and riding instructions. Edgewood Heritage Park was founded in 1976 as a bicentennial ongoing project is owned and operated by the Edgewood Historical Society as an outdoor museum. The purpose of the museum is to preserve the rural culture and architectural heritage of East Texas to ensure present and future generations an opportunity to study and celebrate their heritage through the authentic architectural exhibits. The event is the society’s major fundraiser for the year. Edgewood Heritage Park is at 106 N. Main, just north of downtown. The festival goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free.
