30-acre tract donated to proposed refuge

Nov. 16 deadline looms for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to submit writ to Supreme Court

A 30.28-acre tract of land in Cherokee County was recently deeded to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for inclusion in the proposed Neches River National Wildlife Refuge (NRNWR). The land is the second donation in recent years. In August 2006, a California couple donated a single acre and officially finalized the establishment of the NRNWR.
