Rusk primary school collects box tops
     School compete to see which class can collect the most box tops. It is easy to clip box tops from hundreds of favorite products. Persons are invited to give their box tops to students in PreK-3, PreK-4, Kindergarten and first grade or take them by the Primary School or Chapman’s Pharmacy. The school receives special funds for box tops collected.

Wendell sentenced to 52 years for murder
Coker sentenced to 35 years for sexual abuse of child
      Henry Oliver Wendell, 52, plead guilty Sept. 14 to the Jan. 15 murder of his 29-year-old daughter, Rachel Halcomb. The shooting death of Mrs. Halcomb occurred at the family home on CR 1103, south of Rusk. Mr. Wendell was sentenced by 369th District Judge Bascom Bentley III to 52 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

County will only pay portion of cell phone bills
Each request reviewed independently
      Cherokee County commissioners established a county cellular phone policy at a meeting Monday morning in the county courtroom in Rusk. Phone allowances were approved for county elected officials and most department heads and supervisory personnel. “The county is not in the cell phone business and we will only pay a supplement,” County Judge Chris Davis said.
