     Internet safety program planned at Rusk ISD auditorium Keith Dunn, now known as “KDCOP,” will present an Internet Safety Seminar for parents at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Rusk ISD auditorium. Mr. Dunn is a former detective and member of the National Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Alyssa Rasberry, Ryan Massingill are married at Castle on the Lake
      Alyssa Rae Rasberry and Richard Ryan Massingill, both of Rusk, were married at 7:30 p.m. July 11, at the Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville. The Rev. Don Copeland officiated for the wedding ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Tammy and Randy Rasberry and the groom is the son of Sara and Richard Massingill.

Heritage Festival planned Oct. 5
      The annual Rusk Pioneer and Heritage Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Texas State Railroad Park but will be preceded by First Friday activities in downtown Rusk Oct. 2. The family-oriented festivities will kick off with the First Friday scavenger hunt through the businesses on the square to find out who shot “Bad Billy Bart.”

      Seal coat operations continue on FM 747 CHEROKEE COUNTY - Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews are scheduled this week to resume seal coat operations on FM 747 between U.S.Highway 79 and U.S. Highway 84. Crews will also be at work clearing brush along the shoulders of various roadways.

      Fire department shirts went on sale Sept. 5 Due to public demand for Rusk Fire Department’s t-shirts, shirts went on sale Sept. 5. The shirts are available in gray or pink and the cost is $16. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go towards funding community fire and safety awareness programs -.

The ladies
     The ladies are all decked out in their colorful finery, ready to entertain theatregoers in the Cherokee Civic Theatre’s fall musical “Little Mary Sunshine.” The play is directed by Debra Petri. The show will be presented Thursday- Sunday, Oct.1-4; and Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9-10.

     The VA has expanded eligibility for hearing aids and eyeglasses for all veterans enrolled in the VA Health Care system. David Thomason, Cherokee County Veterans Service Officer, said, “Effective Oct. 28, 2008, this service became available. This service also includes batteries and repair of non-VA hearing aids.

Dumpsters will be available Oct. 3, 17
      Rusk city wide clean-up is planned for 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 17. Dumpsters will be available at the Rusk City Barn on U.S. Highway 69 S. and at the Conley Park on Reeder Street.
