East Texas Lumber Can Build a Durable House
A well-built house made of East Texas lumber can stand for over a century and be in use every day. That is certainly the case for Thompson House, a venerable 1895 Victorian mansion located on the corner of Grand Avenue and Brockett Street in Sherman, Texas. That exhibit also contains photographs documenting his larger, heroic-sized outdoor work. Herring Coe’s artistic spirit endures in stone and bronze all across East Texas.

John Wayne is usually associated with westerns, but he also made a series of films such as “Donavan’s Reef,” “The Sea Chase,” and “Reap the Wild Wind” in which he played a sea-faring man. One of those in this genre was “Wake of the Red Witch,” but few know that the movie was adapted from a novel penned by an East Texan, Garland Roark.
