Man gets to 50 years for murder
      Bernie Lucas of Jacksonville was sentenced Aug. 21 by a Cherokee County jury to 50 years in prison for the October 2007 murder of Shelia Gray.

Building demolition
      A brick building on U.S. Highway 69 in Rusk was demolished Tuesday morning to make room for a new $1 million 5,185 sq. ft. Fat Dog beer and wine store. The 1.638 acre tract was purchased through Mike McEwen, trustee, from Rusk Church on the Hill, by Bratton-Fair Enterprises.
