Trail ride will benefit relay for life program
      A trail ride leaving the Tomato Bowl in Jacksonville early Sept. 1 will conclude in approximately 38 days in El Paso. Participants will travel 764 miles, averaging 18-20 miles per day for the approximately 38 days. The ride will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Cherokee County and St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

MARRIAGE ENRICHMENT
      Central Baptist Church and Fellowship Bible Church have partnered together to bring a marriage enrichment event to Jacksonville. The groups are offering dinner and a movie. The “Fireproof” movie will be shown.

      Lowe’s Chapel Cemetery memorial service slated The annual Lowe’s Chapel Cemetery memorial service will be held at 11 am Sunday, Sept. 27 at the cemetery, located on FM 1301 east of Rusk. A business meeting will be held immediately after the service. Potluck dinner on the grounds will follow.

      Trenton Connor Gray Jody and Amanda Gray of Maydelle announce the arrival of a son, Trenton Connor Gray, Aug. 10 at Nacogdoches Medical Center. He weighed six pounds and 12 ounces and measured 20.5 inches. Greeting the new arrival are a sister, Hailey Faith; and grandparents, Rebecca and James Gray of Maydelle and Edward and Mary Gossett of Texarkana.

Sen. Nichols announces plans for re-election

      More than 250 persons representing both the Democrat and Republican parties gathered last Thursday in Jacksonville to launch Sen. Robert Nichols’ re-election campaign to the Texas Senate. In the weeks ahead, similar announcements will be made throughout the 16-county Senate District 3, which covers most of East Texas and Montgomery County just north of Houston.
