     COLLEGE STATION – Though rain clouds have been idle over most of Texas, agricultural producers remained busy, gearing up for harvesting – or already harvesting – and preparing to plant winter wheat and baling hay, according to Texas AgriLife Extension Service personnel.

AGRICULTURE SECRETARY VILSACK ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $13 MILLION TO HELP MEET COUNTRY'S RENEWABLE ENERGY NEEDS
     TEMPLE, TEXAS, September 3, 2009 — Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced that the department is providing more than $13 million in loans and grants for 233 renewable energy projects in 38 states under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). Dallas Tonsager, Under Secretary for Rural Development, made the announcement on behalf of Vilsack during a speech at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois yesterday.

     The deadline to file a notice for livestock losses that occurred between Jan. 1, 2009, and July 12, 2009, is also Sept. 13, 2009. The final deadline to submit an application for payment for those losses is Jan. 30, 2010.
