Lady Eagles, Lady Jackets receive state accolades
Rusk, Alto softball squads see combined 6 players named to Texas Sports Writers' Association all-state teams
      Softball season has been over for roughly a month, but that doesn't mean that teams aren't still being recognized for the seasons they put together. In Cherokee County, two softball programs received a combined six all-state nods from the Texas Sports Writers' Association and one Coach of the Year award.

Varsity closes out Rusk Summer League with split
Some teams unable to make all dates; remainder of league play cancelled
      Going into Thursday night, none of the teams involved in the Rusk Summer League expected that to be the final night of play. There were, in fact, two weeks left in the season.

Jenna Rose Anderson to swim in Youth Friendship Games July 10
      A young woman with ties to Rusk and Jacksonville will represent her country in Vienna, Austria. Jenna Rose Anderson was selected from a pool of thousands of youth swimming athletes across the United States to represent the U.S. in the pool at the Youth Friendship Games and World Sports Festival, to be held July 10.

Rusk basketball camp July 14-17
      The Rusk Basketball Camp will be held July 14-17 at the Rusk High School gymnasium. Registration will be at the door at 8 a.m. July 14. The cost is $30 per person. The camp is for girls and boys who are going into kindergarten through ninth grade.

Rusk: where amazing happens
     A few Rusk Intermediate School students showed that basketball stars aren't only in the NBA. Coach Marks Lanham held a fourth grade boys' basketball tournament last spring at Rusk Intermediate School. The winning team was composed of boys in Ashley Oliver's homeroom. In front from left are Patrick Ball, Tommie Hale-Beamon, Ed Atkins, Alex McCalister and Jay Blakemore. In back are Justus Morris, Colton Snively, Wes Thompson, Bobby Morgan and Dylan Garner.

Play ball!
     l Nathan Acker of the Rusk Baseball/Softball Association (right) accepts a flag from Brent Stahelin of Woodmen of the World Insurance Society Lodge 303 in Jacksonville. The flag will fly at the baseball field in Rusk for the softball and baseball regional tournaments over the next two weeks as well as for the state tournament at the end of July.
