      The Cherokee County Mental Retardation Association Inc.'s recent acquisition of Anderson and Angelina facilities has the workshop on a fast track for growth. And recent action by the Legislature could lead to more funding and more avenues of assistance to persons with mental challenges.

Freedom Fest benefits crisis center June 27
      The second annual Great East Texas Duck Race is planned for Saturday, June 27 at Lake Jacksonville. Participants can sponsor a racing rubber duck and may win $500, $200, $125, $100 or $75. Single ducks may be purchased for $5 each. Ducks may be purchased singularly or 10 for $50.
