1st division
     Ashlea Crosby, Chelsie Daniels and Kara Hugghins show off the 1st division trophy the Rusk seventh grade band won at UIL concert April 16. All junior high bands will perform at their spring concert May 28 at the Rusk ISD auditorium.

Nesselhauf-Dover
     Lacey Nesselhauf and Kenley Dover will be married in July in Jacksonville. She is the daughter of Nancy and Howard Nesselhauf of Jacksonville and he is the son of Dale Dover of Rusk and Rhonda Dover of Jacksonville. Both are Rusk High School graduates. She is a Stephen F. Austin State University graduate and is employed as a nurse in Lufkin. He is attending Stephen F. Austin State University and is employed by Shanco Insulation.

      The Cherokee County Master Gardener Association will host their annual Garden Tour of Homes benefiting HOPE from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 30.      Weldon and Ruth Pringle of Alto will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary June 3. Mr. and Mrs. Pringle were married in Houston on June 3, 1949. They have three daughters, Karen Kesinger, Wanda McCuistion and Kathy Kendrick; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

World War II veterans honor set
Group will leave DFW June 1 for 2-day visit in Washington D.C.
      Orville Graham of Rusk will join 34 other Texas World War II veterans on a trip to Washington D.C. Various activities will honor the veterans. They will fly from DFW Airport June 1. All expenses will be paid.

Good Sam trash
     This couch was left under the shed at the Good Samaritan. The Good Samaritan does not handle furniture of any kind. When furniture is left, the Good Samaritan has to pay someone to take it to the landfill. Kay Epperson, president, asks that persons not not drop off any furniture.

Rusk Army veteran considers Japanese war strategy 'dumb'
      P fc. Frank Ford of Rusk P served in 124th Infantry. 31st Division of the U.S. Army. He was drafted May 13, 1942, and discharged Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1945. As he thinks back to his days of active duty, he questions some of the Japanese war strategies.
