TSR seeks $1 million loan from rail authority
      Al Harper, president of American Heritage Railways of Texas and operator of the Texas State Railroad, requested a loan of $1 million from the Texas State Railroad Authority. This item received the bulk of discussion when the authority's board met in regular session May 14.

Friday collision on loop
     PHOTO: QUINTEN BOYD This Toyota Matrix, driven by Jo Henderson Tussing, was one of three cars involved in an accident Friday afternoon at approximately 2:50 p.m. at the traffic light on FM 752 and Loop 343 in Rusk. Officer Jeremy Jackson, who worked the accident, said Ms. Tussing pulled in front of a Dodge Ram pickup traveling west on the loop, driven by Terrence Breaux Jr. The pickup hit the passenger side of Ms. Tussing's vehicle, causing it to collide with a Chevy Impala driven by Idelia Lagunaz. No injuries were reported.

Bonner Bank building makes big move across town
One of Rusk's historic landmarks moved from U.S. Highway 69 to lot next to Heritage Center of Cherokee County
      Visitors to the Heritage Center of Cherokee County will now have a piece of the county's heritage just outside the front door. The Bonner Bank building, a historical landmark that previously stood just off U.S. Highway 69 across from the Southern Motor Inn, was moved last Friday to the vacant lot between the Heritage Center and Prosperity Bank.

New drop boxes
     Rick Bobbitt, community squad officer and two offenders from TDCJ deliver drop boxes to the Rusk Good Samaritan on 2nd Street. The drop boxes were made in the shop at Skyview-Hodge. Persons wishing to leave items are asked to place them in the drop boxes. Standing next to Officer Bobbitt are TDCJ Skyview-Hodge Warden Todd Foxworth; and Kay Epperson, Jan Townsend and Betty Townsend of the Rusk Good Samaritan.

CLARIFICATION
      Two persons were elected to places on the Wells ISD board of trustees May 9. Elected were Wendell Smith, 57 votes and Ross Hicks, 45 votes. Others on the ballot were Randy Harris, 34 votes and Donna Seymore, 21 votes.

Cherokee Civic Theatre's TNT registration underway
      Cherokee Civic Theatre Inc. will conduct its "First Call" registration for the annual Thespians 'N Training (TNT) theatre arts camp. Young people learn acting and technical skills, culminating in one-act performances by each troupe on Aug. 1.

Woman in car hits man
RUSK MAN RECEIVES LEG INJURIES
      A family disturbance May 12 sent a Rusk man to the hospital with leg injuries. Assistant Police Chief Roy Cavazoz said, Walter Walker and his girl friend Lisa Gail Brooks argued at a residence on Jarred Street. Ms. Brooks allegedly hit him in the back of the head with a baseball bat. Ms. Brooks left the residence and got into her pickup truck. Mr.
