Praise, worship service planned at Rusk church
      Faith Holy Tabernacle, a nondenominational church at 485 N. Main St. in Rusk, will sponsor a praise and worship service at 3 p.m. March 29. Speaker will be Martha Heggins of Tyler. The Rev. Sam Willis, pastor, invites the public to attend this service.

County holds pre-budget workshop
CHEROKEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
      Cherokee County commissioners met Thursday morning to discuss the 2009-10 county budget. Work on the new budget is expected to begin in June. Commissioner Kelly Traylor, precinct 1, asked that the meeting be called to allow the court to discuss carryover funds and plans for fund usage.

Marker for Capt. Dickson dedicated

      On Sunday, Feb.15, the Sons of Confederate Veterans Cross of Saint Andrew camp No. 2009 of Cherokee County held a military grave marker dedication ceremony for Capt. William K. Dickson at Myrtle Springs Cemetery. Capt. Dickson served in Colonel Moreland's Alabama cavalry regiment under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest during the War Between the States from 1861-65.

Precinct 3 plans trash day March 14
      A trash day is planned for 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the Precinct 3 county barn in Jacksonville. A maximum of two pickup truck loads will be permitted. No tires, oil or paints will be allowed. The precinct 3 barn is located at 7500 U.S. Highway 79 W at CR 3201.

The People's Church hosts concert March 14
      Miles Pike's second annual homecoming concert is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the People's Church, U.S. Highway 79 E in Jacksonville. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Special guests will be the Hubbard family and Jordan James, Ben Waites and John Simmons.

$15,000 scholarship is awarded to JHS student
      Jacksonville High School senior, Lana McKinney, was recently selected to receive the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's $15,000 scholarship sponsored by the Cherokee County Go Texan committee. Miss McKinney was honored at a scholarship banquet and dinner in Houston earlier this month.

Board honors Whites
      Houston and Freddye White were recognized Monday evening by the Rusk ISD board for their work with school elections during the past 20 plus years. Mr. White is a long-time election judge and Mrs. White has helped with other election duties. They declined to serve this year.
