Auditions for spring productions set March 1, 2
      Auditions for the upcoming Cherokee County spring show of April Fish & The Wooing of Lady Sunday will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1 and 7 p.m. Monday, March 2. Rachel Joseph will direct the production. This is a first time for her to serve as director. "I'm looking forward to directing this farce, it should be a lot of fun for the audience," Miss Joseph said.

Diabetes education class begins March 4
      The Cherokee County office of Texas AgriLife Extension Service will begin a free diabetes education series Wednesday, March 4. Classes will meet every Wednesday through April 1 at the courthouse annex building, 165 E. 6th Street in Rusk. The classes are being co-sponsored by HOPE.

New Summerfield UMC plans Suppertime
      Suppertime at the New Summerfield United Methodist Church will begin with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. and a concert at 7 p.m. Featured at the concert will be Bri'Ann Driver and The First Church on the Hill Praise Team and Had-A-Call, a gospel quartet from A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto.

      Blood drives have been scheduled throughout East Texas by the Carter BloodCare. The center is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks, licensed by the Food and Drug Administration and affiliated with America's Blood Centers.

Resale shop is open 1st, 2nd Fridays

      Cherokee County Farm Bureau has state and local scholarship application forms for Cherokee County Farm Bureau members. Applications are available for graduating high school seniors and college students who have completed 45 semester hours and are currently pursuing a degree in agriculture.       Kathy Patterson, nursing advisor at Tyler Junior College, spoke to prospective nursing school students at Jacksonville College on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Ms. Patterson discussed prerequisites for nursing school, tests that would be administered and what students could expect in nursing school.

Minor injuries in Friday accident
     Only minor injuries were reported in a wreck last Friday at Loop 343 and U.S.Highway 84 in Rusk. A Mercury Sable driven by Debbie Howard, 44, of Lufkin apparently pulled out from Loop 343 on to Hwy 84 in front of Crystal Atkerson, 21, of Rusk. Ms. Atkerson's Ford Taurus collided with the side of the vehicle. Rusk VFD used the Jaws of Life to cut the door off of Ms. Howard's vehicle. She was transported to the hospital by ETMC EMS. Rusk police officer Earl Dominy investigated the accident; Rusk Fire and EMS assisted.

'The Glass Menagerie' slated for Friday, Saturday in Rusk
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m. Saturday
      The Cherokee Civic Theatre will present Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" again this weekend. The production opened last weekend. Productions are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cherokee Theater, next door to the post office in Rusk.

Rusk prepares for bridal show on March 7
      "Every bride will be a princess at the third annual Rusk bridal show slated from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at 517 N. Main St. in Rusk," said Connie Brown, manager of the Rusk Chamber of Commerce. Admission is free and two fashion shows will be provided by The Hip Shack and Elaine's.
