Best companies to work for include Austin Bank
      Austin Bank was recognized and honored at an awards ceremony Jan. 28, at the Texas Association of Business 2009 annual conference in Austin. The bank was named as one of 100 best companies to work for in Texas.

Mr., Mrs. Dyess note 50 years
     l R.S. and Esther Dyess will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at the Oakland Missionary Baptist Church with a reception hosted by their children. Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration. The couple wed on March 7, 1959.

Rusk students participate in St. Jude's Math-A-Thon
      Rusk Elementary School students are involved in a St. Jude Math-A-Thon which will end on March 2. Participating students receive a Funbook that is filled with math problems and puzzles. Students ask family and friends for pledges based on an amount per problem or a onetime donation.

AgriLife Extension Service offers help to women who need mammograms
      Mammograms can cut breast cancer deaths as much as one-third. That is why the American Cancer Society recommends women, aged 40 and older, be screened for breast cancer with a mammogram once a year. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. It is the best method used to detect breast cancer early and prevent death since the cancer is easier to treat at that point.

      (AUSTIN) Court Appointed Special Advocates TM called on Texas lawmakers for money needed to recruit and train volunteers who will serve an additional 4,000 Texas foster children.

Military flags fly
     Rusk Rotarians David Thomason, Roy Reynolds, president, and Gary Corley place military flags at the veterans memorial on the courthouse lawn on Presidents Day. Flag and money to purchase flags were donated by Congressman Jeb Henserling; former Rotary District Governor Jack McCullough; Chapman Pharmacy, Knox Ray Mens Wear, J&J Jewelry, JoEd Realty, Citizens 1st Bank and Austin Bank. Worn American flags were replaced and five armed forces flags were purchased.

      Menus for Meals on Wheels for the week of March 2-6 have been announced. Meals are delivered to homes of elderly persons living in Cherokee County.
