      The lights were bright, the game tipped off and the people came out, despite frigid temperatures outside. The Rusk Eagles and Lady Eagles played their first game action in Eagle Coliseum last Tuesday night. With much left to be decided in district play and a two-game road trip coming up, Rusk hoped to gain and maintain momentum going into the end of the season.

      Jacksonville College will celebrate 110 years of "providing a quality Christian education" during their annual Homecoming events on Friday and Saturday. This year's theme is the "year of the 9's," emphasizing the years 1959, 69, 79, 89 and 99.

Rusk powerlifting takes 4th at Fairfield

      The Rusk Eagle and Lady Eagle powerlifters took part in the Fairfield powerlifting meet last Saturday. The boys and girls finished fourth in their respective team competitions. For the boys, Montrell Sessions finished second in the 132-lb. weight class.

Etech to sponsor golf tournament to benefit Rusk Senior Finale
      Etech RMS will sponsor a golf tournament on Saturday, March 7 at the Birmingham Forest Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Rusk High School class of 2009 Senior Finale. The cost to register is $50 per person and the format is a four-man scramble. The total team handicap must be 48 or more.

      The Cherokee County Baseball/ Softball Association, formerly known as the Alto Youth Baseball/Softball Association, will hold a mandatory coaches' meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Alto Rural Water office. Sign-up forms will be sent home from school with all youth the first week of February.

Cardinals win 15th annual Superbowl Scramble
      The Cardinals squad of Johnny Lawrence, Cody Allen, Steve Winfield and Wade Floswosky (pictured above) won the 15th annual Superbowl Scramble at Birmingham Forest Golf Club on Jan. 31 with a score of 56. The event raised over $500 for the Rusk High School Class of 2009 Senior Finale.
