Rusk road trip: Eagles travel before opening new gym
      Anyone from the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition could tell you that there's nothing better than having a new home. The Rusk Eagles and Lady Eagles finally got to roost in their new "Nest" Tuesday night against Diboll.

Bright future: Rusk JH boys, girls teams win tourneys
      The Rusk Junior High boys' and girls' basketball teams are getting a head-start on winning championships. Last weekend, the 7th and 8th grade Eagles and Lady Eagles hosted the East Texas Dogwood Tournament at the original Eagle Gymnasium with three of the teams picking up titles.

Seniors Moore, Thacker named to team based on GPA, class rank and ACT/SAT scores
      Two Alto athletes excelled not only on the football field, but in the classroom. Seniors Jared Moore and Brandon Thacker were named to the 2008 Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Football Team.

Eagle powerlifting starts season on strong note
      The clang of weights permeated the air in Rusk on Saturday as the Eagle and Lady Eagle powerlifting teams kicked off their season with the Eagle Invitational Meet. Behind the strength of four first place finishes, the Lady Eagles won second place in the team standings, finishing behind Palestine and ahead of Westwood, Bullard and Huntington.

     k The Wells High School Introduction to Horticulture class built a small garden consisting of brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli while learning the fundamentals of garden planning and maintenance. In the front row (l-to-r) are Peggy Currie, Kalee Rhoden, Alisha Dyson, Heather Lopez and David Moreno. In the back row are Shelby Tullos, Justin Reed and Cody Collins.
