      As the summer sun rose over Cherokee County, the action on the sports landscape heated up. It started with state championships in softball. The county also saw two of its own sign with major league ball clubs, received a grappling world championship and watched as football season began in August and stretched through December.

      The roar of the crowd and the crack of colliding pads and helmets will soon permeate the air on Saturdays around Lon Morris College, and the school's first head coach will be thoroughly familiar with Cherokee County. Lon Morris announced Tuesday that they would expand their sports program to include football.
