Locals place at state meet
Rusk shot putter, Alto relay teams compete for gold

Athletes from Rusk and Alto competed well at the state track meet in Austin, but all came short of striking gold.

Rusk's Quinn Anthony competed in the shot put event, placing eighth with a shot of 50 2.75.

Meanwhile three Alto relay teams ran for glory at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Girls 4x100 results

The girls' 4x100 relay team of Lashandra Gasaway, Katina Sturns, Laquendal Tyler and Taneshia Pope placed sixth in the event with a time of 51.07 seconds.

Their time was 1.48 seconds behind the first place relay team from Seagraves.

Boys 4x100 results

The boys 4x100 relay team of Devon Patton, Brandon Thacker, Demarcus Griffin and Javante Jones finished third with a time of 43.77 seconds, placing .72 seconds behind the first place team from Rule.

Boys 4x400 results

Alto's 4x400 relay team of Kliton Wade, D'Marcus Tyler, Hayden Scott and Jordan Shaw finished in seventh place with a time of 3:33.50.

A team from Gorman won first place with a time of 3:27.02.

In all, 13 athletes from Cherokee County competed in the state track meet, with 12 being from Alto. Of the 13, four were girls and nine were boys.
