New lease regulations approved for Cherokee County Airport

      Cherokee County Commissioners met briefly Monday morning to approve the purchase of a used Rex pulverize mixer for Precinct 2. The only bid received was for $32,500 from Callens Company, Inc. of Tyler. In another matter commissioners approved regulation changes for airport hanger leases.

New correctional officers wanted, screening set
Warden wants to recruit 30-32 new correctional officers
      Skyview-Hodge Warden Todd Foxworth hopes a new officer screening process will produce him 30-32 new hires. The screening is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, May 21-22. A TDCJ recruiter will screen correctional officer applicants at the Skyview Unit in Rusk.

Caddoan Mounds scheduled special events
      The Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site will hold lace-making demonstrations from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and a star viewing party beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Caddoan Mounds site, located on SH 21 six miles west of Alto. Drinks and snacks will be sold at the museum store.

New Summerfield resident recently becomes citizen
      Daniel Guerrero, a student with the EL-Civics program at New Summerfield ISD, completed his citizenship requirements at the Immigration and Naturalization office in Dallas in March. Daniel works with a company that builds and repairs bridges and highway overpasses.

Chamber will host Fair on the Square May 23-24
      The Rusk Chamber of Commerce will host the 17th annual Fair on the Square May 23-24. The dance has been moved from Saturday to Friday evening. Vendors are being sought for both the fair and the Friday evening dance. The annual Fair on the Square will be held from 9 a.m.-4p.m. Saturday, May 24.
