BY KEN MCCLURE

Sons of Confederate Veterans Cross of Saint Andrew camp No. 2009 of Cherokee County held a military marker dedication Sunday, April 20, at McDonald Cemetery in New Summerfield for Sgt. Josiah Dotson. Sgt. Dotson served in Company G, 18TH Texas infantry from 1861-65.

The ceremony began with an opening prayer followed by the charge to the SCV, a tribute to southern heroes and the salute to the flag.

Sgt. Dotson's life history was read by his great-grandaughter, Karen Perry, and his military history was read by his great-great-granddaughter, Alexandria Perry.

The camp rifle squad fired a volley in his honor and the Saint Andrew Southern Belles placed flowers on his new marker as a final tribute to his service.

Everyone in attendance sang Dixie to conclude the ceremony.
