Energy Star sales tax holiday set

Texas residents looking for new household appliances can take advantage of the Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday May 24-26. The sales tax break applies only to products that carry the Energy Star logo on the appliance, packaging or the Energy Guide label. Energy Star products use 10-50 percent less energy and water than normal appliances. Shoppers are expected to save $2.6 million dollars over the weekend. Appliances that are considered to be sales tax free during the holiday are: air conditioners under $6,000, ceiling fans, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, incandescent and flourescent light bulbs, programmable thermostats, refrigerators under $2,000 and clothes washers. The Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday is separate from the annual August sales tax holiday on clothing and shoes, which is scheduled this year August 15-17.
