Alto teams beat Cushing The Alto Yellowjacket baseball team is facing fierce competition down the homestretch of District 22 A competition, coming off of consecutive wins against Mt. Enterprise and Cushing. The Mean Sting defeated Cushing 7-4 Friday before slipping past Mt. Enterprise Saturday 10-9. The wins advance Alto to a 16-2 record, 10-0 in district. The Jackets won the game against Mt. Enterprise on a squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jared Curtis scored on a bunt by Hayden Scott to give the Mean Sting a 10-9 victory. Colton Crisp was the winning pitcher for Alto. Alto and Mt. Enterprise will rematch Friday at Jacket Field. The Jackets enjoyed a 7- 4 victory over the Cushing Bearkats Friday, as Tarlandus Mitchell pitched the win, striking out 15 batters while allowing five hits and four runs. "We played a real good game against Cushing," Coach John Paul Dixon said. Clayton Scott and Jared Moore both hit homers in the game, while Rhett Gresham went two-for-four from the plate. Mitchell batted two-for-three. Lady Jackets beat Cushing The Alto Lady Jackets enjoyed a huge 17-4 victory over the Cushing Galkats Friday as the Lady Jackets lit up the scoreboard. The win advanced Alto to a 12-0 record in District 22 A. Cushing threatened early in the first inning as Sam Pruitt scored after being walked. Her score would be the last score for Cushing for two innings. Meanwhile, Alto's batters put the ball in play and scored on several Cushing miscues. LaQuendal Tyler opened the bottom of the first inning for Alto with a single. Holly Huddleston added another single before being batted in by a triple hit by Heaven Liles. Liles pitched well from the mound for Alto, striking out 10 batters. Lead hitters for the Lady Jackets were Tyler (3-3 with three runs), Lexi Sessions (3- 4, one double, two runs) and Abbey Scott (3-4, one double, one triple, two runs). Alto has clinched the district title and will advance to the Area round of the playoffs. The opponent and playoff site have yet to be determined. |
