Friday night marked the end of ten baseball and softball careers at Rusk High School. Six senior baseball players and four senior softball players played their last regular season home game as Rusk Eagles.

Before the baseball game, the six seniors were honored and presented with gifts from the rest of their teammates, as well as their parents and family. The six honored were Chance Davis, Stephen Halbert, Adam Hicks, Damion Hicks, Macon Lindsey and Zack Welch.

Each player was introduced individually and met on the field by parents, friends and other loved ones. All six players were recognized for their achievements on and off the playing field and were given a standing ovation for all of their time and effort over their high school careers.

The Eagles were unable to keep the positive mood up all night, falling to the Central Bulldogs.

Rusk finished the season with a 6-8 district mark and a fifth place finish.

Following the softball game, the four senior Lady Eagles took their turn in front of the crowd. Hillary Hugghins, Kristen Joyner, Rachel Mahaffey and Sierra Smith were honored for their playing careers at Rusk. All four players were given gifts from the team, the coaching staff and family members.

All four had been members of the varsity softball team since their freshman year.

Although they have played their last district home game, there is still the possibility of a home game during the playoffs.

The Lady Eagles have not found out who their first playoff opponent will be. Last year the team reached the regional quarterfinal round before losing to district rival Huntington.

Rusk had defeated Central 12-2 before the ceremony. Rusk finished the district schedule with an 11-3 record and finished second in district play.
