Book presented to library, firemen

Marcia Hassell, l center, presents copies of "Fire Boys, Fire Whistles And Fire Wagons" to Virginia Singletary and Norma Foster, representing Stella Hill Memorial Library and to Terry Black and Andy Grammer, representing the Alto Volunteer Fire Department.
Copies of the recently published book, "Fire Boys, Fire Whistles and Fire Wagons," a pictorial history of Alto, by Charles L. Page, were presented to the Stella Hill Memorial Library April 5.

The book is dedicated to the members of the Alto Volunteer Fire Department, both past and present.

It contains unfinished research of the history of Alto with emphasis on fires in Alto.

Charles Page died before completing the book and every attempt has been made to keep the publication in the original form.

The information contained in the book was gathered through approximately 30 years of research and personal interviews with local residents. Pictures included in the book date from 1876 to 1983.

The book was prepared for publication by Marcia Page Hassell.
