17 enter guilty pleas
      Seventeen persons entered guilty pleas in district court during the month of March. Those pleading were: •Charles Wells, 28, of Wells, charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, was sentenced to nine years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Grand Jury returns 15 indictments
      A Cherokee Grand Jury returned 15 indictments March 24 in the 2nd Judicial District Court. The indictments included murder charges against Jessie Smith, 49, of Rusk, for the Aug. 19, 2007, death of James Keon Jordan, 24, of Tyler, at a family reunion on FM 2962.

Fugitive apprehended in Cherokee County
