Early voting underway for Democratic primary

Early voting for the April 8 Democratic primary run-off election will continue through April 4.

Voting began Monday at the Cherokee County courthouse; the Senior Citizens Center in Jacksonville and A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto.

Locally the only election on the ballot is for Precinct 3 commissioner.

Candidates are incumbent Moody Glass Jr. and former commissioner F.E. Hassell.

Mr. Glass led the ballot on March 5 with 47.52 percent of the vote.

Mr. Hassell received 28.84 percent.

The winner of the run-off election will face Republican challenger Katherine Pinotti in the Nov. 4 general election.

Ms. Pinotti was unopposed in the Republican primary.

The only statewide election on the April 8 Democratic ballot is between Dale Henry and Mark Thompson, candidates for the Texas Railroad Commission.

The Republican Party will not have a run-off election in Cherokee County.

Early voting for the May 10 city and school elections is scheduled for April 28-May 6.

In addition to elections to fill positions on the city councils and school boards, Rusk and Jacksonville will conduct an election for charter changes.
