      Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties first ever Rubber Duckie Chili cookoff is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, at Lake Jacksonville concession area. Proceeds from this event directly benefit abused women and children.

4th place
     Daniel Hardin, an 8th grade student at Jacksonville Middle School and the Cherokee County Spelling Bee Champion, tied for 4th place in the statewide spelling bee held in Dallas over Spring Break. His Language Arts teacher is Linda Brown.

Rusk student wins $500 college scholarship
      Hard work and dedication paid off for Rusk FFA member, Lance Dement, who recently earned a $500 college entry scholarship by the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show's Calf Scramble Committee. He is one of 61 Texas high school students who will share a total of $82,000 in grant money.

     Jaymee Benge, six year-old Rusk resident, donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love. She is the daughter of Scotty and Tina Benge. Her hair was cut by her aunt, Charlene Watson, owner of Wildfire Beauty Salon. Jaymee is looking forward to letting her hair grow so she can do this again.
