Alto coach evaluates district play The Alto Yellowjackets had an unexpected vacation last week as the game against the Wells Pirates was postponed due to rain Tuesday, then cancelled Wednesday due to personal reasons on the part of the Wells coaching staff. Alto had a bye for March 20. The added time off gave the Jackets an opportunity to get in a few extra workouts and evaluate the district competition. "Douglass is playing good baseball," Coach Dixon said. "Last year, Mount Enterprise was the third-place team, they've got most of their players back, and Douglass 10-runned them." Coach Dixon said Cushing is another team that is playing good baseball. "We beat Douglass 8-1 and Cushing beat them 6-2," he said. "They had a kid hit a grand slam for that win." Cushing's challenges come from being injury plagued, Coach Dixon said. "They've lost a couple for the season due to injuries." He noted that Mount Enterprise has a young team that is skilled defensively. The Jackets will host Chireno at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Jacket Field, in a game that will be aired on KWRW 97.7 FM. |
