RAYMOND S. DUVALL JR.
Mr. Duvall died Easter Sunday, March 23. He was born Oct. 30, 1913, in Big Spring to Lena Belle and Raymond S. Duvall Sr. He was a 1931 graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas. He also graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1936 with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce. While at SMU, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi professional fraternity. Mr. Duvall served four years active duty in the U. S. Navy during World War II, plus eight years of inactive duty, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his active duty time he was a Naval Inspector of Ordinance in Hamilton, Ohio, for 18 months, and then an Ordinance Officer for 23 months in the South Pacific on the staff of Commander Service Squadron South Pacific Force. Mr. Duvall worked for the Borden Company for 37 years. He lived in Houston from 1956-2003 when he moved to Jacksonville to be closer to family. Mr. Duvall was a long-time member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Houston where he served many years as head usher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmeta D. Duvall; parents, Lena Belle and Raymond S. Duvall Sr.; and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Shelton. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina Sorrell of Jacksonville and Mimi and Craig Kotz of Granger; grandchildren, Ray Sorrell and wife Cynthia of Missouri City, Elizabeth Wade and husband Greg, of Jacksonville, Robert Kotz of Chicago, and Kathryn Kotz of New York City, greatgrandchildren Lexie Sorrell, Grayson Sorrell, and Lauren Elizabeth Wade, nieces Nancy Bratic and husband Walt of Houston, Sally Shelton and husband Ted Gehrig of Boston, and nephew Jim Shelton and wife Susie of Plano. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Sorrell, Robert Kotz, Greg Wade, Craig Kotz, Walt Bratic and Jim Shelton. |
