TED THOMPSON Memorial services for Billy Ted Thompson ("Ted") was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tyler with Pastor Art Hill officiating. He was born Feb. 22, 1938, in Freer, and died March 21. Ted grew up on the farm outside of Jacksonville, graduated from Jacksonville High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He and his high school teammates played their way to the only state basketball championship in the school's history. He was a newspaper reporter for the Tyler Courier Times-Morning Telegraph and later retired from the Jacksonville Daily Progress. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death are his parents, Frazier Thompson in 1981 and Opal lsaacks Thompson in 2007; and his sister, Norma Lou Cupp in 2004; two daughters, Laurie Ann Thompson in 1961 and Sarah Kathryn Thompson in 2005. Survivors are his wife of 31 years, Carol Paar Thompson of Tyler; daughters and a sonin law, Lisa Kay and Greg Dodd of Rockton, Ill. and Traci Elizabeth Wilson of Conway, Ark.; his grandchildren, Kayla Wilson of Hot Springs, Ark. and Will Wilson of Conway, Ark. and Caroline, Colin, Alec and Kylie Rose Dodd of Rockton, Ill.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Herb Paar (Doris) of Lake Palestine East; his brother-in-law and sisterin law, Steven and Cindy Paar of Tyler; a nephew, Don Cupp of Tyler; a niece, Jean Ann Cupp of Hartley. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Goodsell Jr., Steven Paar, Greg Dodd, Paul White, Mike Leinback, Don Cupp. Andrew Waldson, Will Wilson, Colin Dodd and Alec Dodd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Hunter St., Tyler, 75701; or to the Sarah Kathryn Thompson Scholarship Fund, St. Mary's University School of Law, One Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, 78228-8603. Local arrangements were under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. |
