IN THE NEWS When four-year-old Callie Burrows of the Wilcox Addition in Rusk awoke about 9 a.m. March 19 she couldn't find her mother. Rachel Burrows, the mother, was in another part of the house and Callie thought she was gone. The little girl, dressed in her shorts and tank top pajamas, wandered away from home and ended up on U.S. Highway 84 E, just past the intersection of State Highway 110. A man and his wife traveling along the highway stopped and picked the child up. She was taken to Cherokee Animal Clinic, where police were called. Chris Holcomb at the animal clinic, reported that she and staff members gave Callie something to eat and drink, wrapped her in a blanket and provided toys for her to play with until she was re-united with her family. Lt. Stephen Hughes said no criminal charges were being filed. He and Sgt. Earl Dominy of the Rusk Police Department investigated the incident. |
