Eagles beat Center, lose to Devils
BY LELAND ACKER

The Rusk Eagles are beginning to gain traction in District 20 3A baseball action as the Feathered Flock is coming off of a 9-4 win over Center Friday.

Trent Halbert got the start for the Eagles with Stephen Halbert picking up the win.

"We had one inning of booboos before our bats woke up," said Head Coach George Banda. "John David Beard and Adam Hicks played stellar defense."

Beard and Hicks turned over three double plays together.

Beard assisted in another double play later in the game by making a throw to the pitcher.

Friday's win over Center advanced the Eagles to a 9-5 record, 1-2 in district.

Rusk suffered a 6-3 loss to the Huntington Red Devils earlier in the week.

"We didn't hit well whatsoever," Coach Banda said. "We came out on fire, but then had an inning of boo-boos and couldn't get it done."

The Eagles host Carthage at 7 p.m. Friday at Eagle Field in a game that will be broadcast on KWRW 97.7 FM with Leland Acker and J.D. Pearman providing play-byplay and commentary.

Rusk will then travel to Central Tuesday.
