A. Frank Smith UMC holy week services underway

Holy Week, a time of special celebration and worship, is underway at the A. Frank United Methodist Church in Alto.

Maundy Thursday communion service begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20. Worshippers will hear the story of the Last Supper, participate in the holy Eucharist and leave after hearing Jesus' final plea for deliverance in Gethsemene.

At 10 a.m. Friday March 21, children of the community are invited to gather at the church for the annual Easter egg hunt and fun time.

At 7 a.m. Easter Sunday, churches from the community will gather at the football stadium to watch the sun rise and remember that the tomb of Jesus was found empty at this time of the morning. Pastors from Hilltop Baptist, Alto Community Fellowship and A. Frank Smith will lead the sunrise worship.

Easter worship at A. Frank Smith United Methodist will be a time of celebration of Jesus' defeat of death and humanity's deliverance from evil. Worshipers will sing the great familiar songs of the resurrection as well as learn a new one. Special music will be presented.

The Easter story will be told in word, prayer and actions. Children will participate in this worship event of the year.

A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church is located on U.S. Highway 69 S., one block past the intersection. Sunday worship begins at 10:50 a.m., with nursery and child care-services provided.
