Rusk teacher held in Gregg County jail
      Harold (Bo) Earl Scallon, 60, former Rusk High School teacher, is being held in the Gregg County Jail. Mr. Scallon was indicted March 4 by a Tyler federal grand jury. Bookkeeper's formal arraignment will be scheduled April or May
      A Cherokee County grand jury indicted Doris Robinson, city employee, on Feb. 25. Mrs. Robinson was charged with tampering with government records on July 1, 2006, and theft of more than $100,000 but less than $200,000 from Aug. 2, 2004 to Sept. 29, 2006.

Rebates will be mailed to U.S. citizens
      Economic stimulus payments of up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for married couples will be issued by the IRS based on 2007 tax returns. Parents also will receive $300 for each eligible child. These payments will be made to citizens beginning in May.

Starling walks further
      Wardell Starling, chaplain of the Cherokee County retired school personnel walked the most steps in the organization's 2007 Walks-A-Million program. Mr. Starling walked 3,600,100 steps totaling the equivalent of 1,800 miles.
