Lady Eagles beat Diboll
Rusk opens district play with 11-3 win

The Rusk Lady Eagles opened District 20 3A softball play last week with a big 11- 3 win over the Diboll Lady Jacks.

 

Callie Collins was the winning pitcher with five strike outs.

"We swung our bats really well and put a lot of pressure on them," Head Coach Ashley McElroy said. "We executed ourbunts really well."

Catcher Mallory Westbrook went four-forfour from the plate with a home run in the first inning, three RBIs, two doubles and scored all four times. Maranda Westbrook was walked twice and scored both times.

Cami Curtis hit two triples and scored twice.

"She's been a long-ball hitter this year," Coach McElroy said. "Our team is full of leadership and hard workers We have plenty of positive attitudes."

Hillary Hugghins went two-for-three with a walk, a stolen base and a score.

Alison Bowling went two-for-five with two stolen bases and two singles.

Sierra Smith hit a home run in the first inning and was walked twice and scored once.

Calah Clark was one-for-three.

Rachel Mahaffey added to the scoring with a single and a stolen base.

Kristen Joyner singled in the sixth inning.

 

Rusk will host an up-andcoming Center team Friday before traveling to Crockett Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles face a big test March 20 against the Carthage Lady Bulldogs, who placed second in District 20 3A last season.

In baseball, the Rusk Eagles lost to the Diboll Lumberjacks 11-1.
