Alto church schedules holy week schedule

Holy Week will be a time of special celebration and worship at the A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church in Alto.

Palm Sunday worship begins with the Children's Parade of Palms commemorating the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. Music and scripture will center around this momentous event when Jesus was first proclaimed "King" by the crowds.

Maundy Thursday communion service begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20. Worship- pers will hear the story of the Last Supper, participate in the holy Eucharist and leave after hearing Jesus' final plea for deliverance. in Gethsemene.

At 10 a.m. Friday March 21, children of the community are invited to gather at the church for the annual Easter egg hunt and fun time.

Early on Easter Sunday, at 7 a.m., churches from the community will gather at the Football Stadium to watch the sun rise and remember that the tomb of Jesus was found empty at this time of the morning. Pastors from Hilltop Baptist, Alto Community Fellowship and A. Frank Smith will lead the sunrise worship.

Easter worship at A. Frank Smith United Methodist will be a time of celebration of Jesus' defeat of death and humanity's deliverance from evil.

Worshipers will sing the great familiar songs of the resurrection as well as learn a new one. Special music will uplift the celebration and the Easter story will be told in word, prayer and actions.

As always, children will have an important part in the gathering of God's people in this most important worship event of the year.
